Today marks the last day in Chula Vista, CA. For some players, it might be their last time training at the Olympic Training Center. But, for others, it’s only a temorary “good bye”. Whatever the situation might be, it was certainly a wonderful and purposeful seven months here. The team has accomplished a lot both on and off the field. This week was no exception.
We woke up on Monday and continued training like all other Mondays. The intense workouts continued until Wednesday afternoon, at which point we began the sharpening and tapering phase of the preparation. The practices will now be designed to make sure we are fresh and ready for our first game on the 10th. Wednsday afternoon was the final hour in the heat chamber. The team was excited to finish the experience, but our coaching staff had a better idea. We arrived to enter the tent and got hit with water balloons. As the doors opened, we got a look at our own little waterpark. The equipment was removed and replaced with slip and slides, a baby pool, water guns, and balloons. The smile on every one’s face was priceless. For a moments time, we were all kids again. It was nice to relax and have a good laugh before leaving. Our bags are now packed with the new Olympic jerseys and we are ready to board the plane. Next time I write will be from the athlete village. I am sure there will be penty of stories. At least, I hope so! All the best until then…..GO USA! Keli #13
